Human Trafficking Arrest
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the District Attorney’s Office, has arrested Drequan Arju Dugar for human trafficking. On Friday, February 16, 2014, Detectives were contacted by “A Safe Place”, a local hotline created to help identify victims in Wilmington and surrounding areas of commercial sexual exploitation. They identified a minor listed on an internet website advertisement for “adult services”. After a four day investigation Detectives arrested Dugar on four felony charges including human trafficking. Dugar, is a 19 year old black male. He is a validated gang member and is in the New Hanover County Detention Facility with a $3,000,000.00 secure bond. He will be in courtroom 100 today at 2:00 pm for his first appearance.
Sheriff Ed McMahon stated, “In our continued efforts to combat the gang issues in New Hanover County, a human trafficking ring was broken up and the victim freed from forced prostitution. I am proud of our partnerships with local law enforcement to continue the fight against criminal activity”.
