The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Lab has received accreditation from the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/ Laboratory Accreditation Board. The ASCLD/LAB is an international organization that is the first in the world dedicated to accrediting crime labs and still the only accrediting body that focuses 100 percent on labs performing testing or calibrations for criminal justice purposes. ASCLD/LAB also offers training programs developed with the forensic community’s specific needs in mind. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Lab is accredited in latent print analysis, to include latent print processing, latent comparisons and 10-print comparison and firearm analysis, to include ballistic entries and serial number restorations. This is an International Accreditation that the Sheriff’s Office has achieved.
