NHSO Assumes Responsibility Over Animal Control Services
As of Thursday, March 1, 2012, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office assumed responsibility of Animal Control Services, once a division of the Health Department. Animal Control Services, now called Animal Services Unit, is part of the Support Services Division of the Sheriff’s Office.
Captain K. W. Sarvis, Support Services Division Commander, has been working diligently to ensure a smooth operational transition. On Wednesday, ASU personnel were sworn in by the Honorable James Faison, District Court Judge, during a ceremony at the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff McMahon says, “Our goal is to provide outstanding service to the citizens and find homes for those animals in our care”. To meet Sheriff McMahon’s goal, Captain Sarvis will be implementing new hours of operation. Beginning March 24, 2012, Animal Services Unit will be open on Saturdays from 10 am until 2 pm to be of better service to the citizens.
