VIPR- Volunteer Intervention Prevention Response
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the launch of the VIPR Program. The VIPR program consists of Sheriff’s Citizens Academy graduates who have volunteered to complete the VIPR training program. The program trains them for duties they will be responsible for and how to accomplish them.
The program consists of 20 hours of classroom training and 24 hours of FTO (Field Training Officer) ride along training. VIPR unit duties include assisting with residential and commercial security checks, residential speed analysis, and assisting with traffic/parking control at special events. The VIPR unit is equipped with radio communications to notify dispatchers of law enforcement situations.
