NEW HANOVER – Just after 6:00 p.m. Deputies responded to the report of a breaking and entering to a residence at 902 Grathwol Drive. The victim reported forced entry and the larceny of electronic items. An off-duty deputy observed the suspect running through the neighborhood and provided telecommunicators a detailed description. Additional deputies responded and quickly established a perimeter to assist in locating the suspect. A K-9 team from the Wilmington Police Department was in the area and offered assistance. Once the K-9 began tracking, officers were led to the suspect, Douglas Roger McLean III, 27, of Wilmington. McLean was found lying down in a nearby wooded area.
Upon a search of McLean, a prescription bottle belonging to the victim was located in his pocket. Douglas McLean, charged with felony breaking & entering and felony larceny remains in custody at the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $35,100 secured bond. During the booking process, McLean was also served with an outstanding warrant for common law robbery, from an investigation by Wilmington Police.
