NEW HANOVER – In the wave of the recent budget cut announcements, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has not been excluded. Earlier this week Sheriff Ed McMahon was asked to trim $1 million dollars from his budget.
Sheriff McMahon plans to meet with his command staff on Monday and will work to accommodate the county’s request with public safety a high priority. “I understand the seriousness of the shortfalls so I’m going to aggressively re-evaluate my budget, but I cannot sacrifice the safety and quality of service to the citizens,” said Sheriff Ed McMahon.
Sheriff McMahon is scheduled to discuss his results with the county commissioners during a budget work session on Wednesday.
