NEW HANOVER – Earlier this afternoon, School Resources Officers at Ashley High School approached a person who appeared to be suspicious on campus. Deputies identified 19-year old Joshua Stanley Hinson of Kure Beach who was on campus for the purpose of picking up a relative who attends the school.
As Deputies approached and began speaking to the individuals, who were in the parking lot, they indicated a machete was inside their vehicle. Consent to search was given which led Deputies to locating an unloaded shotgun inside the vehicle. Deputies did not find ammunition for the weapon nor do they believe Mr. Hinson intended to use the weapon at the school.
Detectives arrested Mr. Hinson and charged him with possession of a weapon on a school campus and second degree trespassing. Mr. Hinson was processed at the New Hanover County Detention Facility after receiving a $2,500 unsecured bond.
