NEW HANOVER – Friday, surrounding law enforcement agencies and officers were honored for their enforcement of Driving While Impaired Offenses.
In 2008, there were 1,453 lives lost on the roads of North Carolina and 440 were a result of Driving While Impaired. On an average someone is killed in the United States by a drunken driver every 45 minutes. Officers were awarded plaques for their dedication to stop Driving While Impaired and underage alcohol consumption.
Congratulations to the Wilmington Police Department for a total of 804 DWI Arrests and Wilmington Officer Conrad Smith for 155 DWI Arrests. New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office had a total of 270 DWI Arrests.
