6th Annual “Make A Child Smile” a Success

NEW HANOVER – The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office held the 6th Annual Make a Child Smile Celebration at Murrayville Elementary School. The celebration is coordinated each year by the School Resource Officers who are closely involved with all New Hanover County Schools.

This year’s event included 96 children who were adopted by employees of the Sheriff’s Office and New Hanover County Government. The children are selected by each school and the names are forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office for adoption.

Santa Clause arrived just before 7pm and read his favorite book, “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Afterwards, the children were provided with Christmas bags filled with items to make their Christmas one they won’t soon forget.

The Make a Child Smile program, sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office, is made possible through donations, the hard-work of the School Resource Officers and the support of Sheriff Ed McMahon.
