2nd Law Enforcement Academy Graduates

WILMINGTON – New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office hosted its 2nd Law Enforcement Academy Graduation on Wednesday. Seventeen students received their Basic Law Enforcement Certification on this day and fifteen were sworn in with the Sheriff’s Office.

“Over the past 16-weeks, they’ve endured over 600 hours of training in different areas of skills,” said Ricky Simpson, Director of Cape Fear Community College’s Law Enforcement Program. “I would like to congratulate these fine men and women”.

Sheriff keynote speaker was Sheriff Ed McMahon. Sheriff McMahon has 21 years experience in law enforcement. He began his career with Vermont State Police in 1988. He progress through the ranks and was promoted to Chief Deputy in 2007, and sworn is as Sheriff in July, 2009.

The guest speaker of the ceremony was Lieutenant Douglas Price of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. He has 18 years experience in law enforcement and has served the Sheriff’s Office in the Detention Division and the Patrol Division in the capacity of K-9, Emergency Response Team and now the Assistant Division Commander.
