NEW HANOVER – On Tuesday, November 10th, thirty-four individuals graduated from the inaugural New Hanover County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy. This Academy was sponsored and put together by the Sheriff’s Office for participants who applied from all over New Hanover County.
The purpose of the Academy was to expose participants to the many different aspects of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. This Academy began on September 15th and met each Tuesday night from 6-9pm.
Participants heard presentations from the Sheriff, the District Attorney’s Office, a District Court Judge, the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, Magistrates Office, State Probation and Parole, and Sheriff’s Detectives, ALE, FBI, Secret Service and others from the law enforcement community. They watched a K-9 demonstration, toured the Sheriff’s Office, Detention Facility and the New Hanover County Courthouse.
The next Sheriff’s Citizens Academy will be announced in December 2009.
