NEW HANOVER – Detectives with the New Hanover County Vice and Narcotics Division and the Carolina Beach Police Department recently concluded a six-week investigation that led the arrest of two South Carolinians and the seizure of 34 grams of methamphetamine. A traffic stop on Sunday, November 15th, resulted in the arrest of Robert Brandon Lewis and Mary Virginia Merritt. Lewis and Merritt were in possession of the methamphetamine which had a street value of $3400.00. Also found during the traffic stop was a digital scale and baggies which is used for packaging the drug.
“This is a considerable amount of methamphetamine. We have been fortunate not to see much of it, but an arrest of this magnitude has put us on our toes”, said Captain D.A. Ciamillo.
Mary Virginia Merritt, 37, of Greer South Carolina, was charged with trafficking by possession, possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver drugs, two counts of conspiracy, maintaining a vehicle to keep/deliver a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Merritt is being held in the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $11,000 secured bond.
Robert Brandon Lewis, 26 of Taylors South Carolina, was charged with two counts of trafficking by possession, possession with the intent to manufacture sell and deliver a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy. Lewis is being held in the New Hanover County Detention Facility under a $15,000 secured bond.
