Sheriff’s Office Kicks-Off Annual SAFE Summer

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office kicked off its annual Safe Summer Program at Hugh McRae Park on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. In this program, School Resource Officers work hand-in-hand with rising 6th grade students, who graduated the Elementary D.A.R.E. Program, to show them how to have a fun summer without drugs and violence. It gives the students an opportunity to interact and have fun with the Deputies on a casual basis, creating a greater bond between them and law enforcement.

Students will tour the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and see first hand demonstrations from the Sheriff’s K-9 Team, Crime Scene Unit, S.A.F.E Unit and Emergency Reponse Team. Other activities include team sports, skating, bowling and more. New Hanover County Sheriff’s office has been sponsoring the SAFE Summer Event for more than 25 years.
