The New Hanover County Vice and Narcotic Unit is responsible for the investigation and suppression of illicit drug trafficking, gang violence, prostitution, gambling, human trafficking and ABC violations throughout the county. Investigations performed by this unit requires the use of an assortment of techniques such as surveillance under-cover operations, informant development, information gathering and analysis, and the service of search and arrest warrants.
This unit has a large area of responsibility and on a daily basis addresses the concerns of the citizens of New Hanover County. From the complex workings of the major narcotic traffickers to the methods and operations of the simple street dealer, the unit actively and aggressively pursues narcotic and vice violators. This unit maintains liaisons with city, county, state, and federal agencies to conduct investigations into related crimes that go beyond the county. The unit also provides oversight, training, and support to all areas of the department regarding vice and narcotic issues and education. Vice and Narcotics detectives also play a key role in assisting prosecuting attorneys to prepare successful narcotic cases for court.
