1. Where is the Senior Center located?

Senior Resource Center (Main Location / Multipurpose Center)

Location: 2222 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, Thursdays open until 7pm for limited activities (except holidays, special evening, and weekend events)

Castle Hayne Baptist Church (Nutrition Satellite Location)

Location: 4544 Parmele Road, Castle Hayne, NC 28429
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30PM with lunch being served from 11:15AM-12:00PM.

Katie B. Hines Senior Center (Nutrition Satellite Location)

Location: 308 Cape Fear Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC 28428
Hours: Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.-2:00PM with lunch being served from 12:00PM-1:00PM.

2. What are the Senior Resource Center hours of operation?

The Main Location is open Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM, with extended hours on Thursday 8:00AM-7:00PM.

The Satellite Locations hours: 

Castle Hayne Baptist Church is open Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30PM with lunch being served from 11:15AM-12:00PM.

Katie B. Hines Senior Center is open Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.-2:00PM with lunch being served from 12:00PM-1:00PM.

3. Is there a fee to join the Senior Resource Center?

No - membership is FREE!  All you need to do is fill out our Participant Registration form. This can be done online or onsite. Once you are a member, you can begin to apply for other programs or our classes. There are many no-cost activities and programs offered in the centers. There are some nominal costs associated with structured classes. These costs are noted in our printed and class catalog.

4. How old do you have to be to become a member?

You must be 55 years of age or older participate in most center programs and activities. Some activities must be limited to members 60 years or older, due to funding agency regulations. An example would be our Congregate Meal lunch program.

5. Do I have to live in New Hanover County to participate in activities or services at the Senior Resource Center?

NO! All older adults, 55+, can visit our center. Once you become a member, you will be able to participate in activities, attend classes and receive services. Our team of Social Workers are familiar with local organizations and services, but are also equipped to find state and national resources as well.

6. Are all services and activities free?

Our goal is to provide the majority of our programs to seniors at no charge. Over 75% of our activities ARE provided at no charge, but some classes require a fee. We do have a scholarship opportunity that covers a set amount for the year. Visit the front desk for the form.  

7. What if I can not afford classes?

The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center has a yearly scholarship program. The availability of this program depends on funding we receive and is available on a first-come, first serve basis, until the funds are expended. A scholarship application must be completed by the member and submitted to a staff member for approval.

8. Do we offer specialized care?

No, we are unable to provide this assistance. Our primary focus is to offer a comfortable atmosphere for independent Senior Citizens to come meet and socialize with other Senior's. However, we can provide information for special adult day care.

9. What type of services does the Senior Center offer?

Our goal is to provide wellness and safety information, educational opportunities for lifelong learning, leisure recreational activities, and referral services. We seek to offer programs that are physically, mentally, emotionally, culturally, and socially beneficial to our participants and provide the opportunity for them to age actively. 10. Do the different centers offer different activities for seniors?

Yes. Although all of our Senior Centers serve to promote healthy, active lifestyles for adults 55 and older, each center is unique with regard to the variety of classes, individual instructors and activities that they offer.

11. If I join one center in New Hanover County, do I need to apply to other center locations to attend there as well?

Once you complete your initial Membership Registration, you are a member in all of New Hanover County’s senior centers! This means that you will be able to attend any of our Senior Centers within New Hanover County. In addition, you will also be able to register online for classes that are offered at any center in the future.

12. How to I access the online portal?

1. Call our registration line at 910-798-6450 and leave a message letting us know you would like to be registered for the online portal.
2. You will receive an email with a temporary password to log-in to the SERVTracker Client Portal.
3. Next you will be directed to client.servtracker.com/#/login. This is a secure external link to our membership software SERVTracker.
4. Enter your username(email address) and temporary password. You will then be prompted to reset your temporary password.
5. You can now register for classes and view your scheduled classes. To cancel a class you will need to contact us directly at 910-798-6400.

13. Can seniors who need assistance come with a caregiver?

Yes. A caregiver may accompany a member of the Senior Resource Center to the center as long as the person can meet the membership requirements with assistance. The caregiver must register with the center and provide written verification of their position as the member’s caregiver from either the member, member’s family, physician or, if applicable, from the Administrator of the senior living facility where the member resides. Please note: If a member receives or requires the assistance of a Caregiver for help with daily living activities, that member must have a caregiver present with them at all times when attending the center. Please direct any other questions regarding caregivers to a staff member.

14. How old do you have to be to have lunch in the center?

 New Hanover County seniors must be 60 years or order to participate in the onsite congregate nutrition program. A client registration form must also be completed or on file.

16. Do you serve restricted meals, such as meals for Diabetics etc.?

No, we do not have special meals. Our meals meet the state guidelines and provide 1/3 of daily food requirements.
