Limberger selected to serve as New Hanover County Permitting Director

JD GraphicNEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – JD Limberger, a longtime New Hanover County employee, will transition into a new role for the organization, serving as the county’s Permitting Director starting August 8. He takes over for Nicholas Gadzekpo following his recent retirement.

“JD has been integral in shaping the strategic direction of New Hanover County," said County Manager Chris Coudriet. "In his capacity as Senior Strategist, he has consistently contributed to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, optimizing processes across various departments. His significant involvement in overhauling the Building Safety permitting system has resulted in enhanced customer experiences and reduced application processing times. Given his impressive strategic insight and process improvement efforts, he is ideally suited for the role of Permitting Director.”

Limberger joined the county in 2010 as a Finance Supervisor for the Finance Department before moving to his role with the Office of Strategy in 2018. His collaboration with various departments throughout county government has led to improved operational processes and resulted in nearly a dozen Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo).

A Connecticut native, Limberger previously worked in the financial sector up north before moving to North Carolina in 2005. Prior to his time in finance, Limberger helped with his family’s business in Connecticut that specialized in foundation work and fabrication, including running the company from 1988-96.

“I’m honored and excited to continue serving the citizens of New Hanover County in a role that resonates with my roots,” said Limberger. “Construction has always been a part of my life, and this role provides an opportunity to contribute to that sector in a unique way within our community. I’m proud of the process improvements we’ve implemented and look forward to discovering even more ways to boost efficiency.”
