Visitor Etiquette

To keep the gardens beautiful and safe for all our guests, please abide by these rules and requests.

  • Children under 16 years of age need to be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Dogs, on a leash, are allowed in the gardens. Please bring bags or use those provided to pick up after your pets.
  • The Arboretum is a smoke-free campus; this includes vaping and e-cigarettes.
  • Garden Art is not to be climbed upon or tampered with in any way.
  • Do not climb waterfalls, play in fountains, and throw anything in the pond.
  • Active sports and games are not permitted. Prohibited games and activities include, but are not limited to football, baseball, and soccer.
  • Please do not stand or walk in the garden beds, on the walls, or climb the trees.
  • Do not pick the flowers or collect any plant materials.
  • Do not feed or disturb the wildlife.
  • Bicycles, skateboards, etc. are not allowed in the gardens. There are designated spots out front near the parking lot for bikes.
  • Firearms are prohibited.
  • All outdoor flames including candles and grills are prohibited.
  • Amplified music or noise-making devices are not permitted unless preapproved by the Arboretum staff.
  • Filming and commercial photography permits are issued by NHC Government. Reach them by calling 910-798-7177. New Hanover County requires a minimum of three business days advance notice to process applications.
