Safe Kids New Hanover County Coalition
New Hanover County Health and Human Services is the lead organization for the Safe Kids New Hanover County Coalition, which focuses on reducing unintentional injury and death among youth ages 0-14 in areas including bike, water, fire, sleep and child passenger safety. This work is done through a network of over 15 community partners who participate in regular community outreach, education, and advocacy.
There are so many great reasons that children should ride bicycles! The Safe Kids New Hanover County Coalition works with it's partners to promote bike safety education throughout the community, and ensure children have access to appropriate bicycles and helmets.

Implementing preventative measures, such as installing working smoke alarms in your home, can decrease the chances of dying in a home fire by up to 50%. Our partners at the local City and County Fire Departments work hard to educate the youngest members of our community on fire safety and keep our residents safe!

Living in New Hanover County where we have access to pools, lakes, the Cape Fear River, and the Atlantic Ocean, it's important for children and their caregivers to be aware of the safety measures they should take when they are in and around the water.
