Sheriff’s Office Warns of Local Scam

NEW HANOVER – A male claiming to be an attorney and in need of gas money has Detectives investigating three separate incidents of obtaining property by false pretenses.

In the last few days, three individuals have been approached in the Monkey Junction area by a white male in need of gas money.  The unknown male claims he forgot his wallet and is in need of gas money to make it to the hospital where his wife is preparing to deliver a baby.  The man also vows to return in a couple hours, but so far he hasn’t.

In the most recent incident, the male was described as a white male in his forties, approximately 6ft tall, 190lbs, wearing a polo shirt and khaki pants.  He was operating a newer model Ford F-150/250.  The truck, black in color, is further described as having an extended cab with raised suspension displaying a “Harley Davidson” novelty plate on the front.  The truck also had “FX-4” in red letters with “OFF-ROAD” in silver letters just underneath the quarter panel and over-sized Mickey-Thompson tires.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detectives at (910) 798-4260.
