WILMINGTON – Earlier today, school officials at D.C. Virgo Middle School encountered an intruder on their campus who had two knives in his possession.
The principal approached the intruder who was later identified as a 15-year old juvenile. The juvenile became irritated and attempted to gain access to the third-floor of the school, which prompted school officials to physically restrain the student and summon the School Resource Officer. School Officials located and secured a knife, located in the student’s pocket. Custody of the juvenile was transferred to the School Resource Officer who located a second knife while searching the intruder.
The juvenile, a 15-year old sophomore, is a special needs student and has been transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. He will later be charged with the possession of a weapon on a school campus, second degree trespassing and property damage through the juvenile petition process.
There were no injuries sustained as a result of this incident. School officials notified families of students at D.C. Virgo through the AlertNow System.
