It is estimated that one death will occur from an auto mobile accident every 13 minutes in the United States.  The best chance for survival following a traumatic car accident happens when the injured person is seen and treated within an hour of the accident.  Seconds count directly following the event.  What if we had a tool to help first responders deliver better emergency care?  The Yellow Dot program is such a tool.  It is our hope that through this program we can reduce the amount of fatal accidents by providing First Responders with your emergency medical information on site.  The Yellow Dot is as simple as placing the reflective sticker on your back windshield and your Yellow Dot envelope in you glove compartment.  Inside the envelope First Responders will be able to find your emergency contact, a list of your prescriptions and a list of all your medical conditions.  The Yellow Dot can also be applied to your residence by placing the Yellow Reflective stickers on the outside of your home beside your front door and placing the Yellow Dot envelope on your refrigerator.  Within the Yellow Dot envelope you will also find a medical card that you can fill out and place in your wallet in front of your driver’s license.    I feel so strongly about this program that I have asked all first responders within New Hanover County to help provide this service to the citizens of New Hanover County free of charge.  You will be able to pick up the Yellow Dot Packet at the Sheriff’s Office or by contacting the C.A.P.Unit.
