The Underwater Investigations Unit was established to supplement the overall effectiveness of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. 

It is comprised of a Dive Team and a Side Scan Sonar Team.  The purpose of the Underwater Investigations Unit is to provide capabilities beyond the scope of normal deputies.
