Strategy
“To
educate and train the
staff and officers of
the New Hanover County
Sheriff’s Office to
provide the highest
caliber of service which
is consistent with our
policies and
procedures.”
The Internal Affairs
section of the New
Hanover County Sheriff’s
Office has been
established to allow
citizens a formal way of
making a complaint on a
member of this office or
to commend a member for
doing a good job. The
Internal Affairs
function and
disciplinary system of
the New Hanover County
Sheriff’s Office serves
as a critical link, and
conduit, for community
trust.
Internal Affairs is
responsible for
investigating complaints
filed against members of
the New Hanover County
Sheriff’s Office in a
professional and
thorough manner.
Internal Affairs also
reviews Policy and
Procedures of the
Sheriff’s Office and
seeks to recognize
training needs within
the Sheriff’s Office.
The goal of Internal
Affairs is to assure the
citizens of New Hanover
County that all
complaints are given due
attention and are fully
investigated. It is the
goal of this unit to
foster the trust the
citizens have with the
Sheriff’s Office. Once
a complaint has been
investigated the results
and findings are
forwarded to Sheriff
McMahon for his review
and action.
North Carolina Law
prohibits the release of
the results of an
Internal Affairs
investigation to the
complaining citizen.
However, you will
receive a letter from
the Sheriff informing
you of the status of
your complaint.
Complaints, concerns and
commendations can be
brought to the attention
of Internal Affairs 24
hours a day:
(910) 798-4497
Lieutenant C.L. Wilson
